FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aquarion Water Company to install six additional ultrasound units in two source water reservoirs to help combat growing algae concerns
Joining the eight (8) SolaRaft-QDB™, solar powered systems already installed, Aquarion enhances their efforts to provide the highest quality water for CT residents
Northampton, MA – March 2020
Aquarion Water Company, based in Bridgeport, CT will be installing six (6) more SolaRaft-QDB™ systems in two drinking water reservoirs this spring, in a continual effort to reduce algae blooms and lower chemical use in water sources. The SolaRaft-QDB™ systems, sold by Maryland Biochemical, an east-coast distributor working with SonicSolutions Algae Control LLC, is a self-powered ultrasound system, using sound waves to disrupt algae cells and inhibit growth and toxin production.
These six units are an addition to the eight units already in place for three reservoirs located in CT. Seth Jones, Supervisor, Water Quality Field Operations for Aquarion oversaw the original eight units installation, upon the recommendation by Ecosystems Consulting, headed up by Dr. Robert Kortmann, in 2016.
The patented Hydro BioScience® product line, manufactured by Diversified Power International, a Piney Flats, TN manufacturing facility, includes two models, Quattro-DB® and Mezzo-DB™, and provide over 2,000 frequencies in one transducer head. The algae control range reaches up to 120 acres of coverage for blue-green algae with a single unit.
Ultrasound technology has been an option for non-chemical algae control since the late 1990’s, and has quickly grown in popularity among municipalities, drinking water and recreation reservoirs, golf courses, wineries and many more industries and water facilities. The technology has been a proven method time and time again all over the world, as an alternative to using chemicals to treat the algae in the water.
“The Hydro BioScience® product line is a pioneer in the marketplace for ultrasound technology, making the Quattro-DB® and Mezzo-DB™ units the only products in the world with enhanced frequency sets to assure critical structural resonance and the ability to operate in two separate bandwidths or DB ( dual-bandwidth),” says George Hutchinson, CT of SonicSolutions Algae Control. “No other product provides 360° coverage with a single unit and the control range like these products. Aquarion’s new SolaRaft-QDB™ systems have the latest in updated technology for solar power and manufactured components, making them the most advanced product in the water.”
The ultrasound units work in harmony with aquatic wildlife (fish and animals), aquatic plants, bio-solids and planktonic organisms other than algae. The ultrasound device can also prevent biofilm formation on cleaned surfaces near the device and remain free of biofilm for longer periods of time after being initially cleaned.
